Master of Arts in Education is an innovative graduate degree program that will equip participants with the skills essential for an academic career in TESOL. The program provides an English-medium study of contemporary approaches to language teaching with an emphasis on building intercultural communicative competence in English as a global language. Having enrolled the program, graduate students will experience a liberal learning environment that allows them to reflect on an in-depth study of a student-centered pedagogy that values participatory approaches such as Project-based Language Learning or CLIL. The faculty promote excellence of an academic foundation for a PhD in TESOL through productivity of intellectual efforts that focus on reflective teaching and research with significant impact on language education.

For the English language-related bachelor’s programs such as “Translation Studies, Foreign Philology (English), English Language and Literature”, here are the prerequisite conditions for the Master’s Degree in TEFL at SDU:
1. Level of English Language Proficiency:
CONDITION: C1, IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 89, or equivalent.
PREREQUISITE: Candidates without a proof of English Language Proficiency (ie IELTS 6.5), will take SDU English Proficiency Test C1.
Candidates who are admitted to the programs with a government grant, but with lower scores than IELTS 6.5 are recommended to take supplementary in-sessional English Language Courses at SDU’s Continuing Education Center or at TEFL bachelor’s program (i.e. TFL 437)
2. TEFL Methodology Background:
CONDITION: Candidates with a CELTA certificate or (TKT band);
OR candidates with the proof of a 3-year experience in teaching English (or in Engli) at an educational institution.
PREREQUISITE: Candidates (with a government grant) who are admitted to the program without a proof of TEFL background will have to take a supplementary in-sessional English Language Course at TEFL bachelor’s program. A second methodology course is also recommended for candidates who joined the program without any confidence in teaching in Endlish.
A candidate who does not meet the conditions above will choose minimum 5 ECTS and maximum 10 ECTS credits of supplementary in-sessional courses (two of the following courses) and a non-credit English course at SDU’s Continuing Education Center.

There is no need to study prerequisite subjects if your Bachelor degree (major) is in relative speciality.
