ADMISSIONS
Admission Rules
Applicants have to write a complex test (CT) to apply for Master’s degree.
Complex testing has several parts:
1. Foreign language proficiency (not required, if you have (IELTS 5.5, TOEFL (IBT 60, PBT 498);
2. Test to identify applicant’s preparation for graduate school;
3. Test on profile group subjects of educational programs.

The passing score for those entering the scientific-pedagogical master’s degree program is 75 points, for those entering the profile master’s degree program- 50 points .
In competition for state scholarship (grant) an applicant can choose one group of educational programs and 3.
Required documents
1. Bachelor’s diploma original;
2. 3×4 cm sized 6 photos
3. Medical card №075 and X-ray result (not required during lockdown);
4. Copy of National ID;
5. Copy of test certificate according to chosen program (if you have one).
To apply for state scholarship (grant):
1. CT (Complex testing certificate;
2. 3х4 sized 4 photos.
Admission Rules
For citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan, information about applying for Doctoral (PhD) programs—on both grant and paid bases—is available on the official website of the National Testing Center (NTC).
Duration of PhD studies: 3 years
Step 1. TAKE THE ADMISSION EXAMS
Applications for admission to doctoral programs are accepted through the NTC website:

Step 2. ACHIEVE THE MINIMUM REQUIRED SCORE
To be eligible for admission, applicants must score at least 75 points in total.

Interview – Duration: 20 minutes
- The interview evaluates the applicant’s professional and personal qualities, as well as their potential to conduct scientific or experimental research.
- Conducted in offline format.
- Documented according to official protocol, signed by the chair, members, and secretary of the examination board. In case of disagreement with the result, an appeal can be filed.
- If the applicant does not attend the interview, 0 points are assigned. This is also recorded in the protocol with required signatures.
Interview Evaluation Criteria for Admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Program

Step 3. SUBMIT DOCUMENTS TO THE SDU ADMISSIONS
Required documents to be submitted to the university:
- Original Master’s diploma with transcript
- Official certificate of passing the state language exam – KAZTEST (issued by NTC)
- International certificate proving foreign language proficiency:
- IELTS (minimum score: 5.0)
- TOEFL: PBT (417), IBT (35)
- TOEIC (minimum 550)
- Duolingo (minimum 80)
- Copy of national ID
- Six (6) passport-size photos (3×4 cm)
- Medical certificate in Form №075 and fluorography results
- Employment record or HR-certified document proving at least 9 months of work experience
- List of scientific and methodological publications from the last 3 years (if any)
*For international applicants: Submission is done in person at SDU University.
IMPORTANT DATES
APPLICATION
At SDU you have to send your documents for registration online and send the originals to the Admissions office. You need to upload the copies of your documents and fill out the required forms. Step-by-step instructions to fill out online enrollment form are here.
After successfully uploading documents and filling out all the required forms, applicants have to get the original copies of the documents to SDU admissions commission. It is important that you pass your enrollment exams before the deadline (please, look at “Important dates’).
State scholarship is a financial coverage, given by state for education to the citizens of Kazakhstan. These scholarships are allotted only by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, universities serve a role of collecting and sending your documents to the Ministry to participate in scholarship allocation process.
State scholarship allocation competition considers your points on Complex testing. To participate in state scholarship allocation competition you need to submit your documents to the university between August 28 – September 5. When submitting your documents, the system asks you to enter the university code. SDU code is 302.
State scholarship coverage gives you an opportunity to study at chosen university free of charge and get monthly stipend. If you graduate with a degree in Pedagogics you are obliged to work in Kazakhstan on your professional field/specialty after graduation.

Tuition fees for Master's 2025-2026
The payment price list to get enrolled in the first semester first year is in the attachment.
You need to make the following payments before signing your contract:
1. Your first year first semester tuition fee as shown in the attachment.
Tuition fees for Master's who started their studies before 2025 - 2026 Academic year
ECTS payment system is applied for Tuition fee policy at SDU.
Multidisciplinary courses (MDE) fees are different from Professional program courses (Program).
Each educational program has different professional program course fee.
Please, find in the attachment below all the fees for all educational programs.
Each semester a student can choose between 20-42 ECTS courses and needs to make payment accordingly before the start of the semester.
To graduate with master’s degree a student needs to cover 240 ECTS credit courses.
Tuition fees at our university are based on the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
Payments can be made per semester or annually.
Tuition must be paid before the semester begins, depending on the number of selected courses.
