The grand opening of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) stand took place at SDU University
From September 23 to 27, SDU University hosted Sustainability Week. Throughout the week, a series of large-scale events were held, including the official unveiling of the “SDGs at SDU” stand. The 17 goals serve as a guideline for addressing critical global challenges and improving the well-being of our planet. The fact that the Sustainable Development Goals are reflected in SDU University’s mission and strategy makes the opening of this stand one of the most significant events for the university.
The opening ceremony of the UN Sustainable Development Goals stand was attended by representatives and the executive director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, as well as representatives from Nazarbayev University, Satbayev University, business leaders, and other officials. During the ceremony, SDU University Rector Alimzhan Ygenbayev and the German Consul Matthias Kisler cut the traditional ribbon and delivered speeches.
After the official opening, an informational session was organized for the guests, focusing on the university’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. At the conclusion of the event, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the university and the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia. This memorandum formalized the partnership between the two organizations, promoting effective collaboration and joint initiatives in the field of sustainable development.
The Sustainable Development Goals are closely aligned with SDU University’s social, environmental, and economic (financial) initiatives. One example is the “Extension School” project, aimed at improving the quality of personnel in Kazakhstan’s secondary education system by conducting professional development courses for educational institutions. This project is an example of how the university actively integrates such Sustainable Development Goals as quality education, decent work, and economic growth into its activities.
The opening of the stand marked the beginning of Sustainability Week, which aimed to increase interest in the UN Sustainable Development Goals among SDU students and staff.
