The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek.
Also present at today’s ceremony were rectors from various universities in the country, the administrative staff of SDU, professors, and specially invited guests.
The guests who attended the ceremony visited the library and familiarized themselves with SDU students’ new technology for library services. The SDU Scientific Library is designed in an “Open access” style and is managed electronically. It provides all necessary facilities for students, including a three-story building with a study hall, relaxation corners, a conference room, and a computer class. The university library boasts over 410,000 books, including 119,113 in Kazakh, 32,565 in Russian, and 258,638 in English and other languages.
It’s worth noting that the SDU Scientific Library was established in 1996. In 2021, the library system transitioned to the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) in accordance with international standards.
