Book issue
To issue books readers may come to the Library during the opening hours.
Due to COVID-19, students must keep social distancing and hygiene measures.
A valid SDU ID card is required to subscribe and enter the library. Users / readers can borrow items; use the reading room, and the centre of electronic resources.
Please, note that the reader is personally responsible for all library materials registered on the ID card.
The conditions of book borrowing:
For Instructors:
University faculty and researchers may borrow books for 30 days, and, if necessary, extend them for another 21 days.
Instructors may have up to 10 books listed in their library accounts at one time, except textbooks.
The additional option for receiving materials is sending a scan version of the book to the Instructor’s email address by their request. According to the Kazakhstani Intellectual Property Rights (2011), the library can supply the instructors only with 20% of the requested material.
For Students:
Students may borrow books for 21 calendar days with no rights to extend them.
Undergraduate and Graduate students may have up to 5 books listed in their library accounts at one time, except textbooks.
Book return
For Instructors:
Faculty must bring the books after 30 calendar days from the day it was issued.
Or after 51 days, if they extend books for another 21 days.
Textbooks must be returned after the end of the Fall/Spring semester.
For Students:
Students can return books and other items by coming to the Library or by sending through courier services (pay their own).
The books must be returned after 21 calendar days from the day it was issued, and textbooks after the end of the Fall/Spring semester.
Book lost
In case of loss or damage of books and other materials from the Scientific Library the student must replace the lost books with the same book content and ISBN number.
If it is impossible to replace lost and damaged materials with other identical materials, the reader makes a refund.
Book request
In case, if after 30 days from the date of the first receipt of the book, a request is received from another reader, the Scientific Library has the right to return the book.
E-resources (online database)
The Library portal has the e-resources in the form of subscriptions and trial access. The current databases of the SDU Library include EBSCOhost, РМЭБ, and national licensed databases as Elsevier, SpringerLink, Thomson Reuters. Users may get remote access by the registration through a corporate email address (@sdu.edu.kz).
The Library notifies the readers with new subscriptions and trials via its networking channels.

SpringerLink is one of the leading providers of information services, magazines and books on science, technology and medicine. SpringerLink is a valuable information resource for researchers, scientists, teachers, students, representatives of business structures and those organizations for whom access to knowledge is a critical prerequisite for successful activity. Today SpringerLink provides access to over 1,500 journal titles on science, technology and medicine in electronic form.

Starting from October 22 at SDU Library will run trial access to Taylor & Francis databases. T&A is an international company originating in England that publishes books and academic journals in all major subject areas.
Taylor & Francis partners with world-class authors, from leading scientists and researchers, to scholars and professionals operating at the top of their fields. They publish in all areas of the Humanities, Social Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, Science, Technology and Medicine sectors. They are one of the world’s leading publishers of scholarly journals, books, eBooks, text books and reference works.

Starting from January 11 till March 31, 2021 at SDU Library will run trial access to Wiley journals. John Wiley & Sons, Inc., commonly known as Wiley, is an American multinational publishing company founded in 1807 that focuses on academic publishing and instructional materials. The company produces books, journals, and encyclopedias, in print and electronically, as well as online products and services, training materials, and educational materials for undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education students.
