Almaty, April 19, 2025 – A team of talented students from SDU University proudly earned 3rd place at the First Inter-University Cybersecurity Challenge, hosted by Energo University (Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications) as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.

This national-level competition brought together student teams from across Kazakhstan, all specializing in Information and Communication Technologies. Participants faced a demanding two-round format that tested both their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in cybersecurity.

Representing SDU University were Kurbanali Nurdaulet, a 3rd-year student of Information Systems; Issatay Rauan, a 4th-year student of Information Systems; and Alikhan Kostubayev, a 2nd-year student of Computer Science. The team was mentored by senior lecturer Shakhnazar-Sultan Manbay.

Throughout the competition, the team demonstrated strong capabilities in several key areas of cybersecurity. They tackled challenges related to Linux systems, cryptography, and database security, while also applying their knowledge in programming with languages such as C++, Java, and Python. Their skills in penetration testing and network security further contributed to their success and helped them secure a spot among the top three teams.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for students to collaborate, think critically, and solve complex real-world cybersecurity problems. It also emphasized the importance of teamwork and innovation in addressing today’s digital threats.
