Rustem Karimov is a finance professional and Senior Lecturer at SDU University with over 12 years of combined academic and industry experience. He holds a Master of Science in Accounting, Finance, and Management from the University of Bristol (UK), earned through the prestigious Bolashak International Presidential Scholarship, and a Master’s degree in Accounting and Auditing from the University of International Business. At SDU, he teaches courses such as Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Financial Modelling and Finance in Project Management. His research interests include impression management in financial reporting, monetary policy, and corporate transparency, reflecting a strong commitment to ethical and evidence-based finance. Rustem has also led and advised numerous financial projects through his consulting firm, ABD Capital, contributing to the financial growth and strategic development of SMEs. His academic and professional achievements demonstrate a dedication to integrating research, practice, and teaching to promote sustainable and intelligent financial decision making.

Profile
My main scientific interests encompass finance, accounting, and auditing. My research focuses on analyzing modern financial management methods, improving accounting methodologies, and enhancing the effectiveness of internal and external audit. Through participation in university
academic projects, the improvement of educational programs, and collaboration with industry organizations, I have gained substantial institutional experience.
In addition to my teaching activities, I perform various academic responsibilities, contributing to the improvement of educational quality, supervising the research work of students and master’s degree candidates, and participating in the development of processes at the faculty level.
Through my research work, methodological activities, and professional initiatives, I strive to contribute to the advancement of science and education in the fields of finance, accounting, and
auditing. Between 2006 and 2025, I participated in several international scientific and practical conferences and published more than 70 scientific works on finance, accounting, and auditing
in international and national journals. In addition, several textbooks were published, including: “Salyk zhane salyk salu” (Taxation), “Salyk äkimshiligi” (Tax Administration), “Salyk
esebi” (Tax Accounting), “Salyk zhane salyk esebi” (Tax and Tax Accounting), and
“Nalohovyy uchet i otchetnost” (Tax Accounting and Reporting).

Dr. Ainur Abdrazakova serves as Head of the Economics and Business Department and
Associate Professor at SDU University. Her scholarship focuses on human capital development,
strategic HRM, and sustainable institutional transformation within higher education systems. She
brings over two decades of extensive international academic experience.
Throughout her career, Dr. Abdrazakova has held research, visiting scholar, and invited
academic positions across Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Türkiye, China, and
Kazakhstan. Her global academic background includes postdoctoral research at the University of
Huddersfield Business School; academic appointments at Florida State University, Middle East
Technical University, and the Silesian University in Opava; and participation in the Horizon
Europe MSCA Staff Exchange Project ORCA: Opening Research in Central Asia. She has
additionally delivered invited lectures and keynote talks at leading global universities, including
the University of Cambridge, Columbia University, and Indiana University.

Sanat is a Senior Lecturer in Leadership/Talent Management at the Oxford Brookes Business School. He got his bachelor degree in Management from the SDU University, then worked for Deloitte (Big-4 auditing firm) as an auditor. After that he did his Master’s degree in HRM at University of Leeds. His industry and academic experience led to doctoral research at University of Malaya, it is the oldest and highest-ranking Malaysian university according to two
international ranking agencies. After completing his PhD, he worked as an associate-research professor in HRM at the top-ranked Central Asian business schools. Sanat has also contributed in the leading and teaching post-graduate level (Master and PhD) courses such as ‘Research Methods for Business’, and ‘Quantitative Data Analyses’ and ‘Employee Engagement, Performance and Reward’.

Program desciption

MBA Management in Healthcare provides an opportunity for joint training in educational programs of the SDU University and KAZNMU and receiving two equivalent diplomas.

The program helps doctors and healthcare professionals advance to the level of business leaders by shaping a medical organization as an integrated system. It covers the use of strategic and financial management tools, modern marketing solutions, and team management practices that reflect current trends.

Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate on the creation of strategies based on analysis of financial metrics, business sustainability, and real-world case studies from other medical practices. The program also develops skills in strategic thinking, effective decision-making, change management, and the implementation of digital technologies, including IT and telemedicine solutions.

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the program will be able to:

Compare different elements of organizational policy and the timeframes in which they operate to address practical business challenges;
Identify and analyze key trends in business structures, core corporate financial decisions, and corporate objectives;
Assess the ethical aspects of managerial actions in business decision-making;
Compare healthcare information systems in terms of their ability to support the needs of a medical organization;

Program description

The goal of the “International Business Law” program is to provide graduate students with deep knowledge and skills in the field of international commercial law, meeting the growing demand for highly qualified professionals. The program focuses on the practical application of law in business, including methods for resolving corporate conflicts, regulating international trade, financial operations, tax law, and legal support for international transactions. The uniqueness of the program lies in the integration of legal knowledge with an understanding of business processes, which prepares graduates for a successful career in the global business environment.

Learning outcomes

Analyze and evaluate the historical and philosophical foundations of scientific theories to form a critical perspective on contemporary social and scientific issues.
Demonstrate critical thinking skills in academic and legal writing, legal reasoning, and legal analysis, and make scientific conclusions.
Solve complex legal problems and apply the results in academic, pedagogical, and legal activities.
Conduct analysis and evaluation of research results, and formulate conclusions and recommendations on issues of German and national law.
Possess the ability to establish and maintain communicative connections.
Apply psychological principles and methods in management to resolve corporate conflicts and enhance staff performance.
Develop and implement modern teaching methods and pedagogical strategies to ensure an effective educational process.

Madina Kenzhegaranova joined SDU University in September 2019. She holds a PhD degree in Management (Kazakh National University after Al-Farabi, 2015 ) and a master’s degree in educational human resources development (Texas A&M University, 2008, The Presidential Bolashak sholarship holder). Madina Kenzhegaranova has 17 years of teaching experience and three years of the administrative staff experience (2016-2019) in the position of the Director of Doctoral programs at Almaty Management University (AlmaU). Research interests of Madina Kenzhegaranova: change management in organizations, entrepreneurship. She has taught at Universities of Lithuania and Poland within the framework of the Erasmus plus program (2017 (one week program), 2018 (one week program)

Beta Career is a special course for fourth year students that covers all elective courses of the penultimate semester of a study program. Beta Career is optional and has its own requirements described in the next sections. The number of students that are admitted to Beta Career is limited.

Goals

The goals of Beta Career are the following:
– Adjust professional preferences
– Apply theoretical knowledge to practice
– Get necessary basic knowledge
– Install network contacts

Duration

The duration of Beta Career is 15 weeks. It starts in September, and ends in December.

Grading Policy

The indicated score in the statement is 60 percent from the Organization and 40 percent (15 points for providing a weekly report, 25 points for the final presentation) from the University.
The assessment criteria should correspond to the quality of assimilation and application of skills corresponding to the subjects of the 7th semester specified in the syllabus.

Important

Program description

Training a master of data journalism who can handle big data, critically analyze and produce data based media content. The program focuses on data journalism, the dynamics and direction of its development, application of state-of-the-art technology, and advanced data visualization techniques. Practical subjects are aimed at developing professional skills such as data sorting following with forming data based media content in storytelling format.

Pre-requisites

Introduction to Journalism – (5 ECTS);
Media language and Style – (5 ECTS);
Total: 10 ECTS

There is no need to study prerequisite subjects if your Bachelor degree (major) is in relative speciality.

Learning outcomes

Create a full-fledged journalistic data material, using the analysis of the processed data;
• Use methods to store, access and process information by interacting with website APIs, JSON,
SQL databases, raw text dumps, creating web scrapers and converting hard-to-use PDFs into
useful information;
• Develop interactive data content in various genres and forms of journalism, taking into account
the competent formulation of a judgment based on incomplete or limited information, knowledge
of basic Python coding algorithms and the principles of operation of other services for in-depth
processing of large data arrays;
• Make correct hypotheses based on big data through their filtering and comparative analysis;
• Plan and create journalistic visual data projects by using new technologies and services in
working with open data sources;
• Classify the rights and freedoms of journalists in working with open and confidential data
sources through the analysis of legal issues in the field of data journalism;
• Apply the key aspects of data journalism to influence the media sphere by effectively searching
for data, followed by filtering and processing until the stage of transformation into full-fledged
media content;
• Summarize the laws of science development, apply psychology in the management of society,
create media texts in English and gain practical pedagogical skills.

Employability

Upon completion of the program, graduates can find work in various sectors where data plays an important role and the analysis, visualization and communication of information based on data is required. In particular, data journalists are in demand in online publications and news sites, on television and radio, research centers, marketing and advertising agencies, non-profit organizations and activist groups, consulting firms, in higher education and training. In addition, data journalists can work as freelancers, offering their services to various organizations and clients.

Many of our undergraduates work during the day, so we can organize classes at your convenience in the evening or in an online format.

Highlights

Our program is necessary not only for theoretical, but also for journalistic professional skills, skills that are used in practice. It is very important that the communication between the company and the client, the editorial office and the audience is good and reliable. The implementation of this project on an online platform has become a particularly urgent problem. Our program offers the skills and knowledge needed to meet these needs in a high-quality and professional manner. Program description

The main goal of the Master’s Program in Private Law is to prepare graduates with knowledge in the field of private and corporate law. The program aims to train specialists who have studied issues related to international commercial arbitration, patents, tax regulation of organizations, and corporate activities. It also aims to facilitate the acquisition of research skills through training in methods of article writing, and master’s thesis preparation, as well as professional skills related to legal consulting and organizing legal business.

Pre-requisites

LAW 121 Fundamentals of civil law – 5 ECTS
LAW 127 Law theory – 5 ECTS

Total: 10 ECTS

Learning outcomes

ON1: Analyze the necessary information, systematize data and formulate conclusions; apply modern teaching methods, adapt them to the different needs of students, interact effectively with students and create a learning environment that promotes development.

ON2: Analyze and process the necessary information, think critically and formulate conclusions; develop optimal strategies for solving problems and making decisions related to professional activities; actively participate in public debates on legal issues.

ON3: Evaluate the current situation and forecast its future development; preliminary analysis of available data for possible studies; study the system, structure and competencies of government institutions, including law enforcement agencies; explain the regulations of various branches of law.

ON4: Apply regulatory legal acts in the professional field; provide legal and legal expertise; master new legislative changes; develop logical arguments and justify points of view; use computer and innovative technologies.

ON5: Maintain competent document flow; draw up various legal documents; analyze and resolve legal issues in the field of private law relations.

ON6: Prepare proposals for improving the legal services of organizations (enterprises), provide legal assistance to individuals and legal entities, manage their emotional state, have a good memory, developed verbal-logical and analytical thinking, be tolerant, responsible and united.

ON7: Master the basic methodological techniques used to obtain new knowledge, help a novice scientist to adapt relatively quickly and effectively to the legal scientific community, construct his research activity methodologically correctly, and ultimately achieve interesting scientific results.

ON8: Develop intellectual, moral, ethical, communication, organizational and management skills, creating a qualified professional who is fluent in learning languages

ON9: Present the results obtained at scientific conferences and publish the results of scientific research in leading national and foreign professional journals

ON10: Build a protection mechanism and submit applications for registration of intellectual property.

Situational case (a comprehensive legal analysis of a specific practical situation based on the application of the norms of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and / or international law)

Learning outcomes

ON1: Master the main methodological approaches used to generate new knowledge; quickly and effectively adapt to the legal academic community; structure research activities in a methodologically sound manner and achieve significant scientific results.

ON2: Apply legal support mechanisms for business in the field of information systems.

ON7: Resolve legal conflicts arising from the division of property and control, the division of functions between officials and company bodies, and the remuneration of executive bodies, participants and shareholders.

ON8: Manage documentation processes competently and draft various legal documents.

ON9: Analyze the technical and legal prerequisites and requirements for the collection, storage, and processing of personal data within national and international jurisdictions.

ON10: Conduct negotiations and draft IT contracts, including licensing, outsourcing, and other technology-related agreements.

ON11: Develop mechanisms for the protection of intellectual property of IT companies and programmers, and file applications for the registration of intellectual creative works.

ON12: To form a competent specialist who is fluent in languages, developing intelligence, moral, ethical, communication, organizational and management skills.
