The IB Educator Certificates Programme offers internationally recognized credentials that prepare educators to teach and lead in IB World Schools (IBWS).
These certificates confirm that graduates possess a strong understanding of IB philosophy, pedagogy, and assessment practices, and are fully equipped to implement IB programmes effectively.
Delivered at the university level, IB professional learning courses are designed for both new and experienced educators who seek to deepen their expertise, enhance their leadership potential, and advance their careers within the global IB community. IB Programme courses are conducted by IB Program coordinators, IB Workshop Leaders and trainers from IB World Schools.
Upon successful completion of the IB courses at SDU, graduates will be able to:
- Understand IB Philosophy and Principles
Demonstrate a deep understanding of the mission and philosophy of the International Baccalaureate and apply its core values in teaching and leadership practices. - Apply IB Pedagogical Approaches
Design and implement inquiry-based, concept-driven, and student-centered learning experiences aligned with IB frameworks. - Implement Effective Assessment Strategies
Develop and use formative and summative assessment methods consistent with IB standards and criteria. Foster the IB Learner Profile
Promote the development of internationally minded students by integrating the IB Learner Profile attributes into classroom practice.Design Curriculum within IB Frameworks
Plan coherent units of inquiry and subject curricula aligned with IB programme requirements and standards.- Demonstrate Reflective Practice
Engage in continuous professional reflection, action research, and evidence-based improvement of teaching practice. Lead and Collaborate in IB Contexts

The IB Educator Certificates at SDU prepare educators to effectively implement specific IB programmes within IB World Schools.
Graduates will achieve the following programme-specific learning outcomes:
1. Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Aligned with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), graduates will be able to:
- Design and facilitate inquiry-based learning experiences for young learners.
- Develop and implement transdisciplinary Units of Inquiry.
- Foster student agency and conceptual understanding in primary classrooms.
- Apply formative assessment strategies appropriate for early and primary years.
- Promote the IB Learner Profile through play-based and concept-driven learning.
2. Middle Years Programme (MYP)
Aligned with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP), graduates will be able to: - Design concept-driven and inquiry-based subject units.
- Integrate global contexts into teaching and learning.
- Develop interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Guide students in Personal Project supervision and assessment.
- Apply criterion-related assessment aligned with MYP standards.
3. Diploma Programme (DP)
Aligned with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP), graduates will be able to: - Design rigorous subject-specific instruction aligned with DP subject guides.
- Prepare students for internal and external IB assessments.
- Supervise and support the Extended Essay process.
- Facilitate Theory of Knowledge (TOK) discussions and critical thinking.
- Support holistic student development through Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).

IB CTL 101 – IB Foundations

This course provides fundamental knowledge of the IB philosophy, learner profile, approaches to teaching and learning, and IB standards and practices.
Required for all IB Minor students.

Supervised teaching practice in an authorised IB World School, allowing students to apply IB methodologies in a real classroom environment.

Across all programmes, graduates will:

Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will receive:
- An IB-recognized degree programme completion
- Preparation across three IB programmes: IB PYP, IB MYP, IB DP
- The IB Educator Certificate in Teaching and Learning awarded by the International Baccalaureate
This qualification confirms readiness to teach and contribute professionally within IB World Schools.
