SDU University and Birkbeck, University of London Sign a Memorandum of Understanding in London
On 19 January 2026, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in London between SDU University (Kazakhstan) and Birkbeck, University of London (United Kingdom). The document was signed by Alimzhan Igenbayev, Rector of SDU University, and Professor Joanne Leal, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Innovation and Academic Development at Birkbeck, University of London.
The signing took place as part of an official event jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The event included a British Expertise International roundtable, which brought together leaders of higher and postgraduate education institutions from Kazakhstan, as well as representatives of leading UK universities.
The Memorandum aims to promote long-term academic cooperation between the two universities. It outlines intentions to develop academic exchange programs, conduct joint research projects, implement educational initiatives, and expand international collaboration and intercultural engagement.
SDU University and Birkbeck, University of London expressed confidence that the signing of the Memorandum will serve as an important step toward strengthening international cooperation and creating new opportunities for students, faculty members, and researchers at both institutions.
