Opening of the Character and Values Education Research Centre at SDU University
SDU University has taken another important step that will give a new impetus to the development of science and education. The university has officially launched the Character and Values Education Research Centre under the School of Education and Humanities.
The main mission of the Centre is to promote research in education based on personal qualities and values, to improve education policy, and to implement it in practice. The Centre aims to conduct culturally significant, evidence-based research that contributes to the moral, ethical, and civic development of learners.
The opening ceremony was attended by the faculty of SDU University, the student community, as well as distinguished international guests. Among the invited guests were:
- Professor Tom Harrison – Director of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues, University of Birmingham, and Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor for Education Innovation at the University of Birmingham. In his speech, he emphasized the global importance of values-based education and highly appreciated the initiative of SDU University.
- Ms Liaw Shao Jun Nicole – Deputy Centre Director, Singapore Centre for Character and Citizenship Education at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She shared her experience in fostering civic responsibility among learners.
- Ms Seing Jee Ching Jasmine – Deputy Director, Character and Citizenship Education, Ministry of Education, Singapore. In her address, she spoke about the role and prospects of values-based education in society.
This important initiative marks a significant contribution by SDU University to the development of values-based education and opens up new opportunities for international academic collaboration.
