CCAAC 2025: For the first time in Kazakhstan, a Fields medal laureate delivered a lecture
Almaty hosted the CHINA — CENTRAL ASIA ALGEBRAIC CONFERENCE 2025 (CCAAC 2025), a landmark event for the global scientific community, jointly organized by the Institute of Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and SDU University.
The CCAAC 2025 conference served as a remarkable opportunity to highlight Kazakhstan’s growing reputation in the field of global science. The event was held under the support of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and chaired by Academician Askar Zhumadildayev.
For the first time in the history of Kazakhstan and Central Asia, the conference welcomed a Fields Medal laureate — the most prestigious award in mathematics. The distinguished scholar, Professor Efim Zelmanov, attended the event.
Professor Zelmanov, a world-renowned authority in the fields of non-associative algebra and group theory and recipient of the 1994 Fields Medal, underscored the significance of the conference through his lecture. In his presentation, titled “On Growth Functions and Complexity,” he shared groundbreaking new results and insights that will have a profound impact on the development of modern algebra.
CCAAC 2025 brought together leading scholars from China, Central Asia, Europe, the United States, and Japan. Among the participants were Professor Zhang Ziping (Peking University), Professor Tomoyuki Arakawa (Kyoto University), Professor Vyacheslav Futorny (Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen), Professor Pavel Kolesnikov (Sobolev Institute of Mathematics, Novosibirsk), Professor Ualbai Umirbaev (Wayne State University, USA), Professor Vladimir Dotsenko (University of Strasbourg, France), as well as Professors Sofiane Bouarroudj and Quentin Euret (New York University, Abu Dhabi).
The sponsorship provided by major business representatives such as Zhanykulov Foundation, Global Chemical Resources, and Qalan.kz highlighted the strengthening of public–private partnerships in Kazakhstan’s scientific sphere.
At the conclusion of the conference, international guests had the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of Karasai District and tour the SDU University campus, where they were introduced to the modern facilities and resources available to students.
