C3 Work Visa for Foreign Lecturers
SDU University welcomes foreign lecturers and specialists coming to Kazakhstan for employment purposes. To obtain a C3 work visa, the applicant must be officially employed by SDU University and have a signed employment contract.
- The passport and visa information provided in this document applies to holders of ordinary passports. Holders of diplomatic, service, or special passports should note that different rules may apply.
❗ Important Note: All foreign citizens must register with the Migration Police upon arrival in Kazakhstan. Failure to comply with the deadlines for arrival notification, registration, or visa extension may result in fines, visa cancellation, or deportation.
All foreign employees must have a passport that is valid for at least 3 months beyond the expiration date of the requested visa. The passport must contain at least 2 blank pages.
When replacing a passport, both the new passport and the old passport must be submitted for correct registration.
Step 1. Submitting the required documents for issuing the invitation
To obtain visa support (invitation), the lecturer must submit:
- a copy of the passport (first page);
- a copy of the diploma with an apostille;
- a signed employment contract with SDU University;
- a completed invitation form (скачать);
Processing time for the invitation: 5–7 business days.
(In some cases, the migration service may extend the processing period.)
Step 2. Obtaining the visa at the Consulate of Kazakhstan
After receiving the invitation, the employee must personally apply to the Consulate/Embassy of Kazakhstan in their home country.
Standard list of required documents:
- a copy of the invitation issued by SDU;
- the original passport;
- a copy of the passport’s first page;
- a completed visa application form (available on the consulate’s website);
- one photograph (3.5 × 4.5 cm);
- payment receipt for the visa fee.
Visa processing time: 5 business days.
Important: The Consulate reserves the right to request additional documents.
To extend the C3 visa, the lecturer must submit the documents to the Legal Department of SDU no earlier than 30 business days and no later than 14 business days before the visa expiration date.
Required documents:
- a valid passport;
- one photograph (3.5 × 4.5 cm);
- confirmation of fingerprint registration (dactyloscopy).
Dactyloscopy
All foreign citizens residing in Kazakhstan long-term are required to undergo fingerprint registration at the Migration Police according to their place of residence.
Without confirmed dactyloscopy, visa extension is not possible.
Foreign employees are required to:
- notify the Migration Police of their arrival in Kazakhstan within three business days;
- register at their place of residence;
- report any change of address to the HR Department or the Visa Office of SDU.
Documents will not be accepted without proper arrival notification.

Immediately after signing the employment contract with SDU University. - Is personal attendance required at the consulate?
Yes, in most cases applicants must appear in person. - Do I need a new set of documents to extend my visa?
Each visa extension is treated as a separate process. - Can I extend the C3 visa without leaving Kazakhstan?
Yes, if the documents were submitted on time and all requirements of the migration service are met. - What documents are required for visa extension?
A 3.5 × 4.5 cm photograph. Confirmation of fingerprint registration (dactyloscopy).
