SDU University Delegation Participates in the International Forum “Kazakhstan – The Territory of Academic Education”
An international forum of strategic partners in the field of education and science – “Kazakhstan – The Territory of Academic Education” – was held in Astana with the participation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The main goal of the forum was to discuss current issues in higher education and science, exchange global best practices, and develop strategic partnerships among academic communities. The event brought together rectors of domestic and foreign higher education institutions, representatives of accreditation agencies, and international experts.
In his opening speech, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the strategic importance of education and science for the development of the country. According to the President, these fields are not confined by national borders; they are shared by all nations and serve as a driving force for the progress of human civilization.
SDU University’s delegation also took an active part in the forum. The delegation included University Rector Alimzhan Igenbayev, First Vice-Rector Davronzhon Gaipov, Vice-Rector for Research Maksat Kalybek, and several leading scholars.
Vice-Rector for Research Maksat Kalybek shared his impressions of the panel sessions, highlighting the significance of the event.
“During the plenary session on science-business collaboration, special attention was paid to the commercialization of scientific developments and cooperation with industrial partners. I was particularly impressed by the speech of N. Marshall, an expert from the UK Royal Academy of Engineering. He stressed the importance of supporting scientists in the commercialization process not only after results are achieved but throughout all stages of research.
I asked a question regarding the UK’s Knowledge Transfer Partnerships program during the discussions. I noted that the program is valuable not only for transferring scientific ideas but also for fostering knowledge and experience exchange. Mr. Marshall agreed with this and emphasized the program’s effectiveness in strengthening ties between universities and industry.
Challenges in attracting venture capital funds for financing scientific projects were also discussed. One of the key issues raised was the limited scale of such projects and the perception of such funding more as grant support rather than investment,” said Maksat Kalybek.
Following the forum, participants agreed to take joint steps aimed at expanding cooperation in higher education and science, supporting innovative projects, and developing the educational ecosystem at the international level.
For SDU University, the forum became an important platform to showcase the university’s scientific potential and to establish new strategic partnerships.
