SDU Team Wins Third Place at the National Mathematics Olympiad

On April 11–12, 2026, the Republican Subject Olympiad for university students was held at Nazarbayev University in Astana, where SDU University students achieved outstanding results.

In the mathematics competition, our university was represented by Oralbek Dauren, Nagashybek Muhammad, Zhanakhmetov Ansar, Ernest Regia, and Seidov Eldos, all of whom secured the honorable third place.

It should be noted that the team result is calculated based on the combined scores of the three best-performing students. According to this system, SDU University secured third place, following Nazarbayev University and Kazakh-British Technical University.

This achievement clearly demonstrates the high level of mathematical training, determination, and academic potential of our students.

The SDU University community congratulates the winners and wishes them continued success in their academic and scientific journey!

A round table on the “Tolyk Adam” concept was held at SDU University

A round table dedicated to the scientific and practical foundations of the “Tolyk Adam” concept was held at SDU University with the participation of scholars. The event brought together prominent national researchers, university faculty members, and students.

In his opening remarks, Vice-Rector for Academic and Research Affairs Maksat Kalybek emphasized the importance of such academic gatherings. Dean of the School of Education and Humanities Dana Moldabayeva also delivered a welcoming speech and expressed her best wishes to the participants.

During the scientific session, a number of insightful presentations on the “Tolyk Adam” concept were delivered. The session began with a brief overview of the scholarly legacy of the renowned researcher Mekemtas Myrzakhmetov and his contributions to Abai studies.

Following this, Zhabal Shoiinbet, Director of the “Hakim Abai” Center, discussed the origins and current development of the “Tolyk Adam” concept. Associate Professor Maksat Alipkhan analyzed its structural components, while Associate Professor Murat Myrzakhmet shared practical applications of the concept in real life. PhD student Yerulan Assentayuly from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University highlighted the practical significance of the “Tolyk Adam” model.

In the next stage, participants were divided into groups and worked on dilemma-based tasks built around the concepts of “Mind,” “Heart,” “Will,” and “Justice.” Each group presented their findings through posters, leading to engaging discussions.

During the Q&A session, students and faculty members had the opportunity to ask questions and receive comprehensive answers from the scholars.

At the end of the event, the results of the group work were summarized, and the key scientific and practical outcomes of the round table were discussed. The Head of the Department expressed gratitude to the participating scholars, and the event concluded with a commemorative photo session.

Rustem Karimov is a finance professional and Senior Lecturer at SDU University with over 12 years of combined academic and industry experience. He holds a Master of Science in Accounting, Finance, and Management from the University of Bristol (UK), earned through the prestigious Bolashak International Presidential Scholarship, and a Master’s degree in Accounting and Auditing from the University of International Business. At SDU, he teaches courses such as Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Financial Modelling and Finance in Project Management. His research interests include impression management in financial reporting, monetary policy, and corporate transparency, reflecting a strong commitment to ethical and evidence-based finance. Rustem has also led and advised numerous financial projects through his consulting firm, ABD Capital, contributing to the financial growth and strategic development of SMEs. Profile
My main scientific interests encompass finance, accounting, and auditing. My research focuses on analyzing modern financial management methods, improving accounting methodologies, and enhancing the effectiveness of internal and external audit. Through participation in university
academic projects, the improvement of educational programs, and collaboration with industry organizations, I have gained substantial institutional experience.
In addition to my teaching activities, I perform various academic responsibilities, contributing to the improvement of educational quality, supervising the research work of students and master’s degree candidates, and participating in the development of processes at the faculty level.
Through my research work, methodological activities, and professional initiatives, I strive to contribute to the advancement of science and education in the fields of finance, accounting, and
auditing. Between 2006 and 2025, I participated in several international scientific and practical conferences and published more than 70 scientific works on finance, accounting, and auditing
in international and national journals. In addition, several textbooks were published, including: “Salyk zhane salyk salu” (Taxation), “Salyk äkimshiligi” (Tax Administration), “Salyk
esebi” (Tax Accounting), “Salyk zhane salyk esebi” (Tax and Tax Accounting), and
“Nalohovyy uchet i otchetnost” (Tax Accounting and Reporting).

Dr. Ainur Abdrazakova serves as Head of the Economics and Business Department and
Associate Professor at SDU University. Her scholarship focuses on human capital development,
strategic HRM, and sustainable institutional transformation within higher education systems. She
brings over two decades of extensive international academic experience.
Throughout her career, Dr. Abdrazakova has held research, visiting scholar, and invited
academic positions across Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Türkiye, China, and
Kazakhstan. Her global academic background includes postdoctoral research at the University of
Huddersfield Business School; academic appointments at Florida State University, Middle East
Technical University, and the Silesian University in Opava; and participation in the Horizon
Europe MSCA Staff Exchange Project ORCA: Opening Research in Central Asia. She has
additionally delivered invited lectures and keynote talks at leading global universities, including
the University of Cambridge, Columbia University, and Indiana University.

Sanat is a Senior Lecturer in Leadership/Talent Management at the Oxford Brookes Business School. He got his bachelor degree in Management from the SDU University, then worked for Deloitte (Big-4 auditing firm) as an auditor. After that he did his Master’s degree in HRM at University of Leeds. His industry and academic experience led to doctoral research at University of Malaya, it is the oldest and highest-ranking Malaysian university according to two
international ranking agencies. After completing his PhD, he worked as an associate-research professor in HRM at the top-ranked Central Asian business schools. Sanat has also contributed in the leading and teaching post-graduate level (Master and PhD) courses such as ‘Research Methods for Business’, and ‘Quantitative Data Analyses’ and ‘Employee Engagement, Performance and Reward’.

SDU University Academic Programs Achieve Strong Results in the Atameken Ranking

According to the 2025 ranking of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken,” SDU University academic programs have demonstrated strong performance across a number of fields.

Based on the ranking results, several university programs were placed among the TOP-5 and TOP-10 best programs nationwide. In particular, the programs in Economics, International Law, Physics and Informatics, Accounting and Audit, Finance, Two Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Applied Law, Computer Science, and Digital Marketing ranked in the TOP-5.

In addition, the programs in Information Systems, Pedagogical Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, Kazakh Language and Literature, International Relations, and Journalism (TV and Multimedia) were included in the TOP-10 list.

The Atameken ranking is one of the key indicators reflecting the alignment of academic programs with labor market demands. The evaluation takes into account graduate employment rates, salary indicators, employer feedback, and the practical orientation of curricula.

These results confirm the competitiveness of SDU University academic programs, the high demand for its graduates, and the university’s steadily growing academic reputation. “Best University Instructor of 2025”

The winners of the Republican Competition “Best University Instructor of 2025” have been officially announced. The competition recognized the most outstanding educators who demonstrated excellence in their respective fields.

A total of 150 lecturers from 37 higher education institutions across the country were awarded the title. Overall, 502 candidates from 89 universities participated in the competition.

From SDU University, 8 candidates took part in the competition. As a result, Nurbek Kakharman and Bayan Bekbolat, Assistant Professors of the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, were named winners.

The evaluation criteria included the development and publication of electronic educational resources and teaching materials, scientific publications in national and international journals, patents, and other academic achievements of the lecturers.

Boosting the Development of Endowment Funds in Kazakhstan: The 4th Professional Meeting Took Place in Almaty

On 17–18 November 2025, the Almaty Technical University hosted the 4th Professional Meeting of Endowment Funds of Kazakhstan — a key platform focused on the creation, management, and investment of endowments, as well as the exchange of expertise between specialists from Kazakhstan and Russia.

One of the event’s highlights was the official signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on 17 November between SDU University and the corporate foundation “Aurora-Ala.” This document establishes the foundation for a long-term partnership aimed at developing capacity in the field of endowment funds.

Under the Memorandum, SDU Extension School and the “Aurora-Ala” foundation will jointly launch a new educational program dedicated to the creation and management of endowments. The program is designed as an innovative model of professional training, integrating global best practices and adapting them to Kazakhstan’s legal and institutional context.

This course represents an important step towards developing a new professional ecosystem built on the synergy of knowledge, practical experience, and strategic partnership. The primary goal of the program is not only to provide participants with modern theoretical knowledge but also to equip them with practical tools tailored to the real needs of Kazakhstani organizations.

The partnership between SDU University and the “Aurora-Ala” foundation aims to give fresh momentum to the development of endowment systems in the country and contribute to strengthening a culture of sustainable financing.

SDU General Information

University welcomes international citizens coming to Kazakhstan for study.
Before applying for a visa, all candidates must be officially admitted to an academic program at the university.

Once a student receives the Letter of Acceptance, SDU University provides the necessary supporting documents required to apply for a student visa.
The passport and visa information provided in this profile applies to holders of ordinary passports. Holders of diplomatic, official, special, or service passports should note that different rules and regulations may apply to them under the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

❗ Important Note

Upon arrival in Kazakhstan, all international students must register with the immigration authorities within three (3) working days. Failure to comply with immigration procedures may result in an administrative fine and deportation to the country of origin. Repeated violations may lead to serious legal consequences.

How to Apply for an Invitation Letter

All visitors to Kazakhstan must hold a passport that is valid for at least three (3) months beyond the expiration date of the visa and contains at least two blank pages for visa stamps.
If you are replacing an expired passport, please provide the passport officer with both your newly issued passport and your old expired passport for registration with the Migration Police.
Please remember that it is in your best interest to submit the required documents as early as possible to avoid any registration issues.

The Legal Department will submit the documents to the Migration Police immediately after signing the Educational Service Agreement with SDU University. Once the invitation letter is ready, a copy will be sent to you via email. After receiving your invitation letter, please carefully check the accuracy of all your personal information.
If any information in the invitation letter does not match your passport or is otherwise incorrect, please contact the Legal Department immediately.

Step 1:

To obtain an invitation letter, international students must provide the following documents:

Invitation form for visa support (downloadable from the university’s website);
Copy of the passport (first page).

Processing time for the visa invitation letter: 5–7 working days.

Step 2:

After receiving the invitation letter, the applicant is required to submit all necessary documents to the Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan abroad, where he or she plans to obtain the visa in person. The applicant is personally responsible for verifying the list of required documents posted on the official website of the Embassy or Consulate of Kazakhstan.

The following documents are usually required:

Copy of the invitation letter for visa issuance;
Passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond the validity period of the requested visa and containing at least 2 blank pages for visa stamps);
Copy of the passport (first page);
Completed visa application form (available on the official website of the Embassy/Consulate of Kazakhstan);
One (1) passport-size photo (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm);
Visa fee (as specified by the Embassy/Consulate).

Processing time for the visa: 5 working days.

NOTE: Additional documents may be requested at the discretion of the Consulate.

Supporting Documents

Supporting documents are only one of several factors that a consular officer will consider during the visa interview. Consular officers review each application individually, taking into account professional, social, cultural, and other factors when making their decision. They may also consider your specific intentions, family situation, long-term goals, and future prospects in your country of residence. Each case is reviewed carefully and receives full attention in accordance with the law.

WARNING: Do not submit false documents.
Fraud or misrepresentation may result in permanent ineligibility for obtaining a visa. If you are concerned about confidentiality, you may bring your documents to the Embassy/Consulate of Kazakhstan in a sealed envelope. The Embassy/Consulate of Kazakhstan will not share your information with anyone and will maintain strict confidentiality of your documents.

Student Visa Extension (for Continuing Students)

IMPORTANT: To extend your visa in the Republic of Kazakhstan before it expires, please submit the following documents to the Legal Department no earlier than 30 (thirty) working days and no later than 14 (fourteen) working days before your current visa expiration date:

Copy of passport (first page)
One (1) photo (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm)
Dactyloscopy is the process of submitting fingerprints at the Migration Police office. This is a mandatory procedure for all foreign citizens residing in Kazakhstan for an extended period.
(Dactyloscopy must be completed at the Migration Police department according to your place of residence.)
Visa fee (Payment can be made with the assistance of office staff)

Notification / Registration with the Migration Police

Your passport must be registered with the Migration Police after each arrival in Kazakhstan, even if the validity period of your visa covers your entire stay in the country.
In case of any change of residential address, foreign staff members must immediately inform their HR manager or the staff of the relevant department.
Currently, notification of arrival is mandatory for all foreign nationals, without exception - including citizens of Eurasian Customs Union countries.
Registration documents will not be accepted without a proper Notification of Arrival.
Citizens of the Russian Federation, Armenia, Mongolia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and the Kyrgyz Republic are allowed to stay in Kazakhstan for up to 90 days.

How early should I apply for a student visa?
It is recommended that you apply for a student visa as soon as you receive the registration form from SDU University.
However, a student visa can be issued no earlier than 90 days before the start date indicated in your invitation letter.
Do all visa applicants need to appear in person at the Embassy/Consulate of Kazakhstan for an interview?
Yes, applicants are generally required to appear in person.
I have a visa that is about to expire and would like to extend it. Do I need to go through the entire visa application process again?
Each visa application is a separate process.
You must apply in the standard manner, even if you previously held a visa or your current visa is still valid.
My passport has expired, but my Kazakhstan visa is still valid. Do I need to apply for a new visa?
If your visa is still valid and has not been canceled or damaged, you can travel with both passports together (old and new), provided that the purpose of your travel matches your current visa.
Your name and personal details must be identical in both passports (unless a name change occurred due to marriage), and both passports must be of the same nationality and type.
I have no blank pages left in my passport, but my Kazakhstan visa is still valid. Do I need to apply for a new visa?

From September 26 to October 21, 2025, SDU University held its traditional “Best Lecturer” contest. Aimed at showcasing the professional competence and educational achievements of the teaching staff, this competition has given strong momentum to enhancing the academic and scientific potential of the university’s faculty.

Based on the contest results, the winners are as follows:
