Suleyman Demirel University hosted an annual international NetDay competition. Participants were students with skills in computer networking, Linux administration and security. At the end of three stages of the competition, a team of SDU and IITU students won the top prize. NETDAY is the 1-2 day competition-based event in the area of computer networks, Linux Administrations and CyberSecurity skills among undergraduate and graduate (master) students in individual and team settings. The event is focused on testing students’ soft and hard skills.
According to Azamat Zhamanov, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences SDU, the competition takes place for the fourth year in a row.
“The purpose of this competition is to increase the interest of the young generation in the computer networking field, to create conditions for identifying students with outstanding networking skills, and to develop university connections with the industry. This competition is now a traditional event. Since 2018, our university conducts a competition in network technology. Every year the competition increases and introduces more fields of knowledge, for example, this year NetDay includes not only tasks on network technologies, but also on security and Linux administration. We want to thank all participants as well as our sponsors for their participation and contribution,” he said.
The competition had three rounds, where the first round was held online and selected 60 top students. The second round, held offline on November 26, focused on networking skills, where students solved a broken network on a Cisco Packet Tracer simulator. The third round was in a quest format, where teams had to demonstrate knowledge of cybersecurity and Linux administration, as well as a project presentation.
