Autobiography

  • Sophia Butt started working at the University of Birmingham (UoB) in the UK two weeks after her MA graduation in 1997. She was part of a trio who wrote the modules for the distance MA in Translation Studies at the Centre for English Language Studies (now English Language and Linguistics): she has been working as a Personal Tutor, Examiner and Staff Mentor on this degree programme since 2002. From 2008 to 2014, Sophia was Director of the highly-acclaimed Business Management English (BME) Presessional Programme at the UoB. As an interdisciplinary doctoral researcher working with Linguistics, Social Policy and Law, she is currently exploring the implementation of the UK’s counter-terrorism strategy in UK universities. In addition to the UoB, Sophia is presently affiliated to Aalto University in Finland (2006- ); Masaryk University in the Czech Republic (2008- ); Suleyman Demirel University in Kazakhstan (2012- ); King’s College London (2014- ); BPP University London (2015- ); and Trinity College London (2015- ).
