SDU has UN lecture room now. Suleyman Demirel University is one of the few high education institutions in Kazakhstan with the UN lecture hall. On May 22, the Representative of the United Nations Department of Public Information Vlastimil Samek visited our university to meet with the professors and the students and to open a UN lecture room.

The visit of Mr. Samek to SDU highlights a number of important dates in the history of both the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Suleyman Demirel University.  First of all this year Kazakhstan celebrates the 25th anniversary of its accession to the United Nations as an independent state. Mr. Samek congratulated Kazakhstan with this anniversary and wished success in its work as a Non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council.

Also, this year the SDU marks the 5th anniversary of its joining of the Academic Impact initiative of the UN. The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) is a global initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in furthering the realization of the purposes and mandate of the Organization through activities and research in a shared culture of intellectual social responsibility. For this occasion, in order to increase the cooperation between the UN and SDU Mr.Samek and the Vice-Rector of the University professor Saltanat Amirgaliyeva signed a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding.

But, most importantly for the students, today the UN week in SDU has been officially opened.  It is a first ever week of the UN organized in the educational institution of Kazakhstan. Within a week the students of the International relations and International law programs of SDU will be learning about the mandate and goals of the UN and its structure. Moreover, the students will have an educational practice at the UN Representative office in Almaty.  The UN lecture room at SDU will collect educational materials and books on the different sectors of international relations and international law, and will serve as a venue to hold lectures and meetings with international visitors.

The Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Almasha Arenova attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The solemn event was also attended by guests from the universities of KIMEP and AlmaU, they also congratulated colleagues on the opening of the laboratory. We would like to note that this event was organized in honor of the 25th anniversary of Kazakhstan's membership in the UN, as well as in connection with the opening of a new specialty "International Law" in 2016-2017 academic year. Today's important event is the fruit of our university's annual cooperation with the UN. And we hope that this cooperation will be very fruitful and useful for our students.
