On January 10-12, 2018 Faculty of Education and Humanities of SDU in cooperation with the Kazakh National University, University of Warsaw and Nazarbayev University organized traditional International Winter School’18.
The two days long program brought expert teachers and professors in the field who lectured on a range of topics. The audience of over 60 current and aspiring language teachers was welcomed by Dean of the Faculty of Education and Humanities Professor Azamat Akbarov. Our International Winter School aimed to equip participants with critical expertise in both theory and practice of “Multilingual Education in Kazakhstan: Strategies, Challenges and Perspectives”. Over the course of three days, participants were actively involved in several kinds of sessions. The school program included the following essential in current multilingual education such as blend courses and discussions around layers of language policy (including the role of teachers), models of bilingual and multilingual education, and methods of language education informed by research (e.g. task based language teaching, CLIL, code-switching and translanguaging).
Course trainer was Dr. Bridget Goodman, an Assistant Professor of Multilingual Education at Graduate School of Education of Nazarbayev University in Astana. Her research and teaching interests include: multilingual language education, language policy and planning, sociolinguistics, and ethnographic research methods. Delegates from Kazkah National University, Satpayev Kazakh National Technical Research University, Border Service Academy of NSC of RK, South Kazakhstan Pedagogical University, Kazakh National Agrarian University, Kazakh Abylaikhan University of International Relations and World Languages, K. Zhubanov Regional State University of Aktobe, KazNRTU expressed their gratitude for organizing such an important event dealing with multilingual education.
The program ended with the award of certificates to participants and lecturers.
